I am the fifth of six children and was raised in Fresno, CA; lived in Villa Grove, IL; and worked in New London, CT.
A shipboard engineer, I sailed on the Coast Guard Cutter Rush as far north as the Bering Sea and as far east as Kushiro, Japan.
A Professor Emerita of English, I was the first woman selected for the Coast Guard’s Permanent Commissioned Teaching Staff at the U. S. Coast Guard Academy, where I taught English, coached crew, and developed an arts education program that included cadet drawing classes at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts and the Florence Academy in Florence, Italy. I received Gender Equity Awards from the American Association of University Women and the U.S. Secretary of Transportation.
I attended the Yale School of Drama as a Special Student in Theater Management and founded the Depot for New Play Readings (www.thedepot.space). I serve on the Board of Flock Theatre in New London, where I also act, stage manage, and direct.
As a student film board member, I was known as “The Voice” at the University of Iowa radio station KRUI.
I run half marathons.
